Cayman Islands will NOT be introducing Daylight Saving Time anytime soon

Premier Alden McLaughlin has confirmed that his government’s plan to introduce Daylight Saving Time this year will not happen.

He gave the reason that there had been considerable opposition to it from both within his party and especially from the public.

It was mainly the financial industry and the tourism sector in the Cayman Islands who were in favour of introducing the change to put the clocks forward one hour in March and back again in November in order to keep in-step with Miami and New York throughout the year.

The change would have taken place on Sunday 13th March.

OECS Commission, Castries, St. Lucia January 19, 2016 –The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) will be participating as a collective at the Boot Düsseldorf Boat Show which will run from January 23-31, 2016.

After two successful joint promotional activities in the United States and Canada, respectively, the OECS Commission is once again coordinating the joint representation of the OECS in the European market.

This decision was taken in response to requests from Member States to increase the visibility of the region in the European market.

The Düsseldorf International Boat Show, commonly known as Boot Düsseldorf is highly regarded among the world’s premier Boat Shows and dubbed: “the world’s biggest boat and water sports trade fair”.

With some 1,700 exhibitors from over 50 countries, this professional trade fair is considered a benchmark for the international boat and water sports industry, showcasing state of the art developments in the yachting sector.

Dr Loraine Nicholas. The tourism officer at the OECS Commission says the (OECS) collective participation at the Boot Düsseldorf Boat Show this weekend is part of the OECS Common Tourism Policy which is at its advance stage of implementation.

The 47th Boot Düsseldorf International Boat Showwill be held atthe Duesseldorf Exhibition Centre in Messe Düsseldorf, Germany.

This blockbuster ad for lamb has Australian legends abducting expats

From Mashable

A TV commercial promoting lamb has become a yearly ritual for Australians, and this year’s rendition absolutely smokes the rest.

This year’s epic ad features cult favourite newsreader, Lee Lin Chin, as the head of “Operation Boomerang,” stealing Australians from their overseas homes and bringing them back for Australia Day for a barbecue, presumably with lamb on the menu.

Also making a cameo appearance is lamb ad legend Sam Kekovich, a few sporting icons and even the Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull. You better believe this is all for just a bit of meat.

Aerodrome is the first commercial airport for drones

slide2By Frederic Lardinois From Techcrunch

Aerodrome is working with the City of Boulder, Nevada, to launch the first commercial drone airport — the Eldorado Droneport. It’s one of only a handful of FAA-appointed UAS test sites in the United States.

The plan is to offer training, maintenance and other support functions for the commercial drone industry, as well as for individual drone pilots. The company already operates teaching facilities in Detroit, Michigan and Henderson, Nevada.

The plan is to complete the construction of the droneport with its adjacent training facilities in about three years. The team tells me that it already operates on a five-acre parcel in Boulder.
