Indiana women’s soccer team arrives

The Lionesses have landed – and are here to play football and spread the word of The Lord. FC Indiana, known as the Lionesses, are visiting Cayman for ten days for a football tournament.

And as well as goals on the pitch, they hope to score some fans off it during their stay.

Victoria Casey, 22 said: “We are going to be playing in a tournament against two of the Cayman Islands teams and a Jamaican team, and we’re here to play some good soccer and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.

“I believe we are playing the U20 Cayman Islands team, the full national team and the U20 Jamaican team. We are from Grace College – it’s a Christian University in Northern Indiana and the name of the team is Grace College team.

Their coach, Michael Voss added: “We’re here for ten days and we’re going to be playing Elite FC, the Cayman Islands U20’s, and the National Team.

“We’re here for the Football Travel International Tournament and hoping to play some soccer games against some good teams. Its good to be in a place where there are some good facilities, and play some good teams.” While on Grand Cayman the team will be training on the beach in the mornings and at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex at 6 p.m.

The team will also be playing friendly matches against our local women and will be looking at our local talent with the aim of signing a few to professional contracts.

One of our local talent that is currently being scouted by FC Indiana is Shenel Gall who is currently away at university.

Shenel will return home to attend the training camp, so that she may be assessed by Shek Borkowski, Head Coach of FC Indiana, and his coaching staff.

Thiago Cunha, CIFA Women’s Technical Director, has expressed his delight at FC Indiana’s visit. “It is a wonderful opportunity for our women’s clubs and proves that Caymanian women’s football is stepping up, as we have attracted professional clubs to our islands to scout our players. I am very happy for Shenel Gall being targeted by FC Indiana, as we have been working together to develop her skills since she was eleven years of age. This is also a fantastic opportunity for our women and girl players and coaches to come out to see a professional club train and play.”

FC Indiana will play three games against Cayman Islands women’s teams, as follows, and admission to the matches is free of charge:
