History is made in Cayman Islands – Rotary welcomes 4 women as presidents

tCurrent rotary presidentsThe four local Rotary Clubs recently held their annual Changeover nights to welcome incoming Presidents for the 2015-2016 Rotary year. This is the first time in Cayman Islands Rotary history that all four of these roles will be held by women at the same time.

Sandy Cram, incoming President for Rotary Central Cayman Islands, taking over from outgoing President, Mr. Larry Tibbetts, has been serving as a Rotarian since 2009 and was inspired to get involved after seeing all of the great ways Rotary Central gives back to the community.

“I am humbled that I have been given the responsibility of leading a club with such a glorious past and bright future. I promise to our members that I will give 110 percent to ensure that the good work continues,” Ms. Cram said. “There are big shoes to fill in the role of President, but I feel that I have the experience and dedication to lead the club throughout the 2015-2016 Rotary year.”

Rotary Club of Grand Cayman welcomed Lynda Mitchell as its new President after serving as secretary, director, vice president and president elect over the past nine years. Mrs. Mitchell said “I am most grateful to our members for trusting me to carry out the task as president, being mindful that the role of president is literally on the job training. The Rotary Club of Grand Cayman will continue to spread its services throughout our community, which includes Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman, while assisting other countries in need.” She follows outgoing President, Brian Hurley.

Christine Matthews, from Rotary Sunrise said she was honoured to be serving for the next year as the organisation’s incoming President. “I have been a member of Rotary Sunrise for the past nine years serving on the Board in a variety of roles,” Mrs. Matthews said. “I look forward to continuing the work of immediate Past President, Kim Remizowski.”

The fourth incoming president is Lauriese Ashman who will be serving for the Rotary Club of Cayman Brac. Ms. Ashman said. “Together, all Rotary and Rotaract presidents in our small niche can make a big difference in the world.”

The Rotary Presidents, would also like to congratulate Alice Ramos, President of Rotaract Blue, Matthew Seales, President of Rotaract Club of Grand Cayman, and Marzeta Bodden, District Rotaract Representative.

All the presidents concluded that they foresee the next year being a rewarding one, as each club serves to uphold Rotary International’s 2015-2016 theme of ‘Be a Gift to the World’. “In order to do this, we all need to be a gift to ourselves, be a gift to our families, be a gift to our club and be a gift to our community,” Ms. Cram said, “In Rotary, by working together, we can make a real change.”
