General Elections 2013 service

Electionn serviceA worship service to “prayerfully lift up” the Cayman Islands General Elections 2013 was held at Elmslie Memorial United Church on the waterfront, Harbor Drive, George Town, Grand Cayman last Sunday (19) at 5pm.

Officiating was Rt. Rev. Yvette Noble-Bloomfield Moderator of the United Church of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands,, Rev. Tata Tyme, Chair of the Cayman Islands Regional Mission Council and Mr. Bryan Bothwell, Regional Deputy General Secretary.

Also taking part were Rev. Lois Sully, Rev. Alson Ebanks, Rev. Dave Hazle and Bishop Nicholas Sykes.

Pianist  – Noel Wallace; organist – Katherine (Kathy) Jackson; keyboardist – Garth Webster; violinst – Nayil Arana; guitarist – Fitzroy Robinson; and drummer – Brett Mobley.

There was also a solo performance given by Abigail Ebanks.

Elmslie Church was packed to capacity and I saw most of the candidates vying for our votes in Wednesday’s (22) General Election present together with their family and friends.

What I found very moving was when members of the congregation were invited to go to the candidates individually and give them a personal prayer. It was humbling for all.

The hymns were “O God Our Help in Ages Past”, “The Right Hand of God”, and “All Over the World the Spirit is Moving”. There was a congregational song “Let There Be Love Share and everyone stood and sang The Cayman National Song “Beloved Isle Cayman” after Rev Noble-Bloomfield’s Benediction.

Every one left the church with a sense of pride, duty and hope.

God Bless our Cayman Islands.
