Miami (Monday, March 9, 2015) – The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) and the Local Organizing Committee of the CONCACAF Under-17 Championship Honduras 2015 today announced a change of venue for the final round of the championship, now programmed for the Estadio Morazan in San Pedro Sula on Sunday, March 15.

Two stadiums in San Pedro Sula have been in use at the CONCACAF Under-17 Championship, which kicked off on February 27. Sunday’s final round was originally scheduled to be contested at the Estadio Olimpico. The decision to move the final three matches to the Estadio Morazan comes in the interest of facilitating access for the legions of fans which have flocked to that downtown stadium to this point in the tournament.

This year, a new format favoring development and competition has been introduced to the Under-17 Championship. The twelve qualifying teams were drawn into two groups of six, involved in a round-robin format on the first five match days, which culminate in Group A on Wednesday and Group B on Thursday.

The top team from each group will earn a direct berth to the FIFA Under-17 World Cup Chile 2015, and a place in the championship match, Sunday evening at 8 pm local/10 pm ET at the Estadio Morazan.

The second- and third-place teams from each group will be re-seeded into a four-team table, based on points obtained during group play. The top team from that table will play the fourth-ranked team in the third place match at 5 pm local/7 pm ET, and the second-ranked team will face off against the third-ranked nation in the fourth place match at 2 pm local/4 pm ET, with the winners of each of those games – also now scheduled for Sunday at Estadio Morazan — securing one of the two remaining CONCACAF berths on offer to the FIFA Under-17 World Cup.
