Event now in progress: The UWI Vice-Chancellor’s Forum | COVID-19 partnering in the Caribbean’s response

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) recently announced that it has established a COVID-19 Task Force, aimed at leveraging the University’s knowledge and experts to assist the Caribbean in its readiness and response to the virus outbreak. Mindful that the region’s best defense is a coordinated and collaborative approach, today, Monday, March 9, 2020, The UWI will host the second in its series of Vice-Chancellor’s Forums on COVID-19—this one themed, Partnering in the Caribbean’s Response.

The Forum’s agenda will include two panel discussions on Preparedness and Economic Impact, featuring UWI academics and experts from regional agencies and government ministries, followed by a Q&A session.

Speakers and panelists expected on the programme are: Senator Lisa Cummins, Executive Director, Lumin Consulting and Chairman of Barbados Port Inc.; Mr. Ronald Jackson, Executive Director, Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA); Pro Vice-Chancellor Undergraduate Studies at The UWI and Chair of The UWI COVID-19 Task Force, Professor Clive Landis; Dr. Don Marshall, Director of the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES) at The UWI, Cave Hill; Dr. Michelle McLeod, Director at The UWI Centre for Hotel and Tourism Management; Professor Winston R. Moore, Deputy Principal of The UWI, Cave Hill and Dr. Justin Ram, Director of Economics at the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB). Vice-Chancellor of The UWI, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles is also slated to deliver remarks.
