Esterley Tibbetts extension opens

thumb_photo1_1360087519ETH-Aerial-Feb-13-2The Ministry of Planning, Lands, Agriculture, Housing and Infrastructure (PLAHI) and the National Roads Authority are pleased to announce that Phase II of the Esterley Tibbetts Highway Extension into West Bay will open to general traffic on Monday, 16 September 2013.

This phase of the road begins on the northbound leg of the new Yacht Drive Roundabout and terminates on Willie Farrington Drive and Batabano Road respectively.

For drivers heading into West Bay from George Town, the highway has been constructed as a continuation of the existing dual lane carriageway (full median) with the exception of the Willie Farrington Connection, which is a single carriageway with no median.

All work has been completed on the road, and the National Roads Authority (NRA) has concluded the required safety audits to sanction the opening of the highway.

Motorists are encouraged to carefully observe the posted speed limit of 40 miles per hour on the main highway and the 30 mile per hour speed limit on the Willie Farrington Connection.

The extension is part of the NRA and Cayman Islands Government agreement with Dart Realty Cayman Limited signed in December 2011.

Phase I of the Esterley Tibbetts Highway has been open since late 2006.
