Emergency budget expected to be tabled in LA

Marco Archer 2013The Cayman Islands new government has issued a notice that it will be holding a session of the Legislative Assembly (LA) this Wednesday (26 June).

The notice sent to all members on Friday (21) evening did not have any attachment showing motions or bills nor has it provided the required 21 days notice to other members.

The email informed all members that the deadline for submitting their motions and questions had been extended to 9:00am on the day of the sitting. The session is due to commence at 10:00am and the notice said it was expected the session would run late into the evening.

It is expected the government will bring a motion asking for the LA members to support its emergency spending package. This will enable the new government continue through until the second quarter of the 2013/14 financial year.

Marco Archer, the Minister of Finance, is expected to deliver the emergency budget address.
