FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC…CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO…

Disturbed weather associated with a tropical wave near the coasts of Nicaragua and Honduras has become better organized today.  Although this system is expected to move over Central America later today and tonight…some development is possible if the disturbance emerges into the northwestern Caribbean Sea in a day or so.  This system has a medium chance…30 percent…of becoming a Tropical Cyclone during the next 48 hours.

Regardless of development…

Heavy rains and gusty winds are likely over portions of Central America during the next couple of days.

Elsewhere…Tropical Cyclone formation is not expected during the next 48 hours.

Locally:

The Cayman Islands National Weather Service (CINWS) recorded winds of around 35 mph at the Owen Roberts International Airport Sunday afternoon (16 June). It lasted for about 15 minutes.

Cloudy rainy conditions, thunderstorms coupled with fresh easterly winds and rough seas are expected over the Cayman Islands for the next 24 hours as a tropical wave moves across the Cayman area tonight.

THE FORECAST:

Tonight (16):  Cloudy skies with a 40% chance of showers and thunder.  Showers may become locally heavy at times. Temperatures will fall to the upper 70’s. Winds will be east to southeast 10 to 15 knots with higher gusts. Seas will be moderate to rough with wave heights of 4 to 6 feet. All small craft should exercise caution over the open waters.

Tomorrow (17):  Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with a 30% chance of showers and possible thunder.  Showers may become locally heavy at times. Temperatures will rise to the upper 80’s. Winds will be east 10 to 15 knots with higher gusts. Seas will be moderate to rough with wave heights of 4 to 6 feet. All small craft should exercise caution over the open waters.
