minturBy Roberto F. Campos

Havana, Dec 15 (Prensa Latina) The development of Cuba´s tourist industry constitutes a main goal for local authorities, who plan to turn this destination into one of the best positioned in the Caribbean and the world by 2030.

The Business Manager of the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR), Jose Manuel Bisbe, and Head of MINTUR Quality Department, Luisa Perez, said that despite some difficulties in mid 2013, the winter season (from November 1, 2013 to April 30, 2014) is set to bring better results and more income.

The latest actions carried out by MINTUR bode an increase in the sector, in the wake of presentation of the campaign “Autentica Cuba” (Cuba for Real) in Spain, Ecuador and Colombia.

Besides,on Nov. 4 the Condor airline started to operate flights from Munich, Germany, to the city of Santa Clara (central Cuba) and Varadero beach resort (western Cuba), with German, Austrian and Swiss passengers interested in the sun and beach tourist modality.

They also cited flights by Polish Lot airline to Varadero and bimonthly routes from Denmark.

Bisbe said at least 20 percent of the peak winter season has been accomplished successfully, with a six-percent increase in the number of visitors, air flights from Italy, Venezuela and a boost in cruise ship travel to Cuba.

Canada, the main sender of visitors to Cuba, already achieved the goal of one million tourists on Dec.5, and authorities expect to close the year with 1.10 million Canadians, or a 10-percent increase against last year.
