Concacaf launches on WhatsApp Channels; one of first global sports organizations to test new digital offering

  • Concacaf WhatsApp Channel surpasses 1.6m followers in its first month.
  • Football body one of first sports organizations to communicate directly to fans via WhatsApp.

MIAMI, FL (Friday, October 6, 2023) – Concacaf has upped its digital engagement game with the governing body for football (soccer) in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean an early adopter of the exciting new WhatsApp Channels and WhatsApp Automation service recently launched by Meta.

Since joining WhatsApp Channels on September 13, Concacaf has experienced extensive follower growth and is already engaging 1.6 million+ fans on the Concacaf WhatsApp Channel. This new offering complements what is already a strong and long-held Concacaf presence across all major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram and X). This October also marks close to a year since the launch of Concacaf TikTok, a journey so far that has delivered huge engagement, with over 22.4 million likes and close to 1 million followers.

WhatsApp Channels offer a distinct and private way for fans to receive the latest updates directly within the app. This innovative feature allows followers to access the most recent news, information, photos, and videos, providing an intimate connection between Concacaf and its dedicated audience.
The regional football organization stands alongside Major League Soccer, Major League Baseball, NASCAR, Roland Garros and a small number of other leagues and governing bodies in the sports category of WhatsApp Channels.

“We have such a passionate and diverse fan base in our region, and we are always looking for new and innovative ways to connect with them, and to bring them closer to Concacaf football. Our new WhatsApp Channel is delivering engaging content promoting our competitions, our players and more broadly the great football stories across Concacaf. “We are thrilled to have so quickly engaged millions of fans and we will strive to continue serving them with great content which celebrates the sport across our region,” said Concacaf Chief Commercial Officer, Heidi Pellerano.

“We are proud to be one of the early adopters of WhatsApp Channels and it is a testament to the passion that fans have for Concacaf football that we are already at 1.6m followers”, added Concacaf Director of Digital, Carlos Chaves.

WhatsApp Channels heavily promotes the prioritization of privacy, reassuring followers that their information is protected, and their choices of channels to follow remain confidential. This feature, which is now accessible in multiple territories across the world, has a variety of channels from celebrities, sports bodies and teams, content creators, and thought leaders. Concacaf’s presence on this platform exemplifies its continuous efforts to explore innovative and creative ways to connect and share the love of the game.

Concacaf’s increasing presence on WhatsApp Channels follows a string of successes earlier this year, including the June conclusion of the 17th edition of the Gold Cup, the rebranding of the Champions League to Champions Cup, the introduction of a redesigned, more fan-friendly website, and the renewal of key partnerships.
