Commemorative Heroes Day coins available

photo $5 rev 2013With the advent of Heroes Day on the horizon, the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) would like to remind the public that a limited number of the commemorative 10th Anniversary Heroes Day coins are still available for purchase. Released by the Authority in January 2013, the coin commemorates the 10th anniversary of the national heritage and cultural celebration in the Cayman Islands.

Culturally-inspired, and designed, by Caymanian graphic designer Kara Coe of Government Information Services, the silver coin features celebrated Heroes Day themes including sailors, representing youth, culture and sports; a woman, representing gender equality; catboats, representing the three Islands; and ‘Man-o-wars’ (frigate birds) – all enveloped in thatch rope, another historical symbol. The coat of arms is depicted in gold on the obverse side.

The commemorative 10th Anniversary Heroes Day coins are available from CIMA’s Currency Division at the Government Administration Building at 133 Elgin Avenue.

The point of sale is the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority’s Currency Division window in the Government Administration Building on Elgin Avenue.

The .925 silver coins are priced US$115 or CI$93.72 each and can be purchased from 9 am until 4 pm, Monday through Friday.

Released in January last year, the coin, featuring celebrated Heroes Day themes, reflects national and cultural heritage in the Cayman Islands.
