KINGSTON’S instalment of Clergy in Concert II delivered quality entertainment for persons of all ages and tastes at the Campion Auditorium in St Andrew last Sunday.

Clergymen of the Anglican Diocese of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands and their families delivered performances not seen from any pulpit, with audience members displaying their appreciation with prolonged cheers and applause.

Under the distinguished patronage of the Right Rev Howard Gregory, Diocesan Lord Bishop, the concert’s first half featured many contemporary musical pieces, among them You Raise Me Up performed by The Vocal Group and I Look To You by Ashlee Mowatt. Bishop of Montego Bay, Leon Golding and his daughter received much audience approval with their rendition of Perhaps Love. The evening was spiced up with a reading of the parable of the prodigal son by Rev Khaliah Kinkead. Rev Douglas Barnes was given a standing ovation for his performance of The Holy City, but the high point of the first half was Canon Grace Jervis rendition of Whitney Houston’s Yes, Jesus Loves Me, One Moment In Time and If I Can Help Somebody.

For the second half, The Purps were nothing short of hilarious. The all-bishop, purple-shirt-wearing group performed song parodies. The audience was moved to peals of laughter. Other highlights were ‘Bob Marley wannabe’ Canon Sirrano Kitson, dressed in blue jeans and Rastafari-coloured tam singing Three Little Birds. Captain Joshua Henry had the audience singing along with I Remember. Rev Easton Lee’s “Fi mi granny seh” tales, following his shouts of “rat poison, rat poison, taste-and-buy rat poison” was a real crowd-pleaser.

Though the programme was long, there was standing room only, and all had a wonderful, refreshing and entertaining evening.
