CIREBA honours local surveyor Patrick C. Broderick, LLS

Pat BroderickThe Cayman Islands Real Estate Brokers Association recently announced Mr. Patrick C. Broderick as one of their 2012 honorees.

The award organized in recognition of Mr. Broderick’s contributions to the real estate industry as a surveyor and for his ongoing commitment to developing projects of the highest standards, was presented at an evening celebration attended by CIREBA members at Grand Old House.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Mr. Broderick has made great contributions to the infrastructure of the Cayman Islands over the past 55 years. In the 1950’s, Mr. Broderick was part of a team invited to Grand Cayman to survey the road systems and design a modern road corridor throughout the Island. Broderick supervised the construction of the project, which was completed in 1960, and effectively opened communications between all of the districts, allowing for development of the Island.

During this same time, Broderick was asked to engineer a roadway on the Bluff in Cayman Brac. He surveyed a line from the “Bight” through the centre of the Island to the Light House in the East. This was modified in later years and now exists as a network of roads and major developments on the bluff.

In 1977, Broderick returned to the Cayman Islands permanently and immediately started engineering services for architects and the Public Works department. Some of the major projects included the resurfacing of the Grand Cayman Airport, the extension of the Cayman Brac Airport and the North Side to East End Highway.

In 1985 having taken the Land Surveyors exam to do Legal work here, he opened Patrick C. Broderick & Co Ltd . Hiring several local and overseas surveyors, Broderick developed a wide and comprehensive clientele in the three islands, opening up large tracts of territory.

At the age of 76, Broderick is now retired, but has promised to be of assistance to his past clients and provide consultancy to the surveyors who will step in to take his place.
