CFU kick off inaugural U-20 finals, with sights set on Cayman 2014

October 21 – The inaugural finals of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s Under-20 Tournament kicked off Friday at the Waterhouse Mini Stadium in Jamaica with a 7-2 win for Cuba over Grenada. In the second match of the doubleheader, Trinidad & Tobago took the maximum three points with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Anguilla.

The tournament marks a significant development step forward for Women’s football in the CFU, with the finalists qualifying for the U-20 CONCACAF Finals scheduled for the Cayman Islands in January 2014.

The Jamaican hosts are holding the tournament in two venues, the second being the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in Arnett Gardens where Jamaica, Dominican Republic, St. Kitts/Nevis and Suriname will play their group games.

Twelve games will be played at the preliminary stage, followed by the semi-final matches on October 25, and the third place play-off and Final on Sunday, October 27.

The Group stage of the Tournament kicked off on July 7 and ended on July 27. The Tournament was divided into four Groups and the two top teams from each group automatically qualified for the Final round.
