Cayman: UPDATE – Fatal Collision on North West Point Road, West Bay

Update (3 May):

The roadways along North West Point Road in West Bay have now been cleared and open to the public. The RCIPS thanks the members of the public for their cooperation.

Police can now confirm that the rider of the motorcycle is a 31-year-old-man of West Bay. The investigation into this matter is being progressed and a 38-year-old-man, also of West Bay, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and driving whilst impaired.

Initial Release (3 May):

Just after 8:30PM yesterday, 2 May, police and other emergency services were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communication Centre to a collision involving a motor vehicle and a motorcycle.

The rider of the motorcycle was unresponsive at the scene of the collision and was transported to the hospital by ambulance where he was later pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

Officers from the RCIPS and the CIFS assisted on scene and North West Point Road in the vicinity of Invicta Drive has been closed to the public as a result of the collision. Vehicles are being diverted through Watercourse Road and motorist who usually utilise North West Point Road are being encouraged to seek alternative routes if possible. The RCIPS apologises for any inconveniences caused. 

This incident will be investigated by the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit of the RCIPS.
