Cayman Turtle Centre Celebrates World Sea Turtle Day with a Weekend of Festivities June 14 & 15

The Cayman Turtle Centre is excited to announce a weekend full of festivities in celebration of World Sea Turtle Day, culminating in a series of engaging events designed to raise awareness and support for the conservation of Green sea turtles.

Green Friday: Dress for a Cause

On Friday, June 14th, we’re launching “Green Friday – Dress for a Cause” to coincide with the World Sea Turtle Day Festival. This initiative encourages community members to dress down in green attire and make donations to support Green sea turtle conservation efforts.

How to Participate:

  1. Drop us an email at [email protected] to let us know you will be participating.
  2. Wear green on World Sea Turtle Day and share your photos on social media with the hashtag #GreenForGreens.
  3. Make your donation to Green sea turtle conservation at https://www.turtle.ky/make-a-donation.

World Sea Turtle Day Release

Also on Friday, June 14th, we will commemorate World Sea Turtle Day with a Turtle Release at Governor’s Beach at 10 am. This event will feature the release of Martha, sponsored by Ingram Micro (IMB); and a turtle to be named through a contest in collaboration with DMS Broadcasting. Persons may enter that contest via x107.1’s Facebook page. This event, open to the public at no charge, highlights our ongoing commitment to marine conservation.

World Sea Turtle Day Festival

The celebrations will culminate in a family fun day on Saturday, June 15th, at the Cayman Turtle Centre. This festival promises an enriching experience for all ages and is designed to celebrate World Sea Turtle Day. Children aged 12 and under will receive free entry upon bringing three pieces of plastic to be recycled, promoting environmental responsibility. Junk will be onsite to facilitate plastic recycling and educate children on environmental conservation. Attendees can enjoy a live DJ, food and drink specials, turtle-themed activities, and turtle-themed arts and crafts using recycled materials. There will be numerous opportunities for children to win special prizes throughout the day, and every child will leave with candy.

“We look forward to welcoming both residents and visitors alike to our turtle release on the 14that Governors Beach and our Day Festival on the 15th at the Centre” said Tiffany Dixon-Ebanks, Chief Marketing and Merchandising Officer. “We invite the community to join in on the fun of naming one of our turtles, by commenting on x107.1’s Facebook page.  The Turtle Centre team is excited to see you out and about at all the various Sea Turtle Festival activities.”

Significant community engagement is anticipated during these events, which are poised to highlight conservation efforts and the vital work of preserving the marine environment.
