His Excellency the Governor, Martyn Roper OBE has issued the following statement in relation to the alleged incident involving the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly:

“I am greatly concerned by any allegations of assault especially when these relate to violence against women.  I made my views known in a Radio Cayman interview yesterday. However, this is now a matter for the RCIPS who began an immediate investigation headed by a senior officer.  I have every confidence that they will deal with it in accordance with the law, which applies to everyone equally. It would not be appropriate for me to comment further until this process is complete”.
