Grand Cayman – Work has commenced on the new Old Man Bay Dock in North Side and is forecast to be completed by August 2023.

Commencement of piling work for the new dock this week.

Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing and Infrastructure Hon. Jay Ebanks said the existing dock was critically in need of repairs and upgrade for over 15 years. “The people of North Side have been engaged and the fishermen have given their support. The Government has been committed to moving this project forward and I am pleased that the changes will allow for small boats to safely launch and utilise the dock area for fishing and other watersport activities”, he said.

He further noted, “The construction of the new dock and fishing hut will enable marine vessels safe access and moving from the seaside to the dock and also from the dock to the seaside without damage to vessels due to existing marine conditions”.

Project managers Public Works Department have emphasised that all the necessary permits have been received from the relevant agencies of Government and notices to proceed issued by the Department of Environment.

The contract for the project was executed between the Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing and Infrastructure and contractor Robson Construction end of last year.

The Public Works Department is advising members of the public that the area is an active construction zone and restricted to employees of the contractor, Department of Environment and Public Works Department.
