Cayman Water’s 3rd Annual Charity Ride 2015
GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman (CWC) — Following the last two year’s successful charity bike ride, Cayman Water Company (CWC), which provides potable water services for the Seven Mile Beach and West Bay areas, will be hosting their 3rd Annual Pete Ribbins Memorial Ride on August 16th, 2015 in honor of former General Manger Peter ‘Pete’ Ribbins.

Pete, who was an active member of Cayman’s sporting community, was also a tri-athlete and a professional football player for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The route remains the same as in previous years, starting at their Abel Castillo Water Works Plant at Peninsula Way, Governor’s Harbour on August 16th at 6:30am for those doing the full 40km and at 7:30am for those choosing to do the 10km. The event will be a social ride at a leisurely pace of no more than 18 mph.

Last year, the event drew over 100 cyclists! It was a fantastic celebration for all local and visiting cyclists. The friendly atmosphere and casual pace ensured that everyone, including the many youngsters, mostly stayed together throughout the ride. Numerous prizes were drawn at the end of the event while participants enjoyed a light breakfast. Emily Ribbins, Pete’s daughter, shared a few words of thanks at the event.

Last year, almost CI$5,000 was donated to Cayman HospiceCare, as Cayman Water Company matched all proceeds raised through registrations. Once again, Cayman Water will match all the registrations and proceeds will go to benefit Cayman HospiceCare, in honor of Pete.

John Tonner, the Company’s Chief Operating Officer and an avid cyclist who birthed the idea of this charity ride, commented, “Hospice is a great cause for the community to support and Ribbs was loved by all who knew him; it’s easy to bring them together. CWCO staff volunteer for this event because it is a good cause, but they do it to facilitate the community helping hospice, which helps the community. It’s one of those beautiful virtuous circles that is good for everyone.”

“It is a great honour to be the recipients of funds raised by the 3rd Annual Pete Ribbins Memorial Charity Ride…..such funds go towards ensuring that hospice care remains at no cost to people living in Cayman who need our services. We sincerely thank Consolidated Water Co. Ltd. for their hard work and for making the event possible.” shared Danielle Coleman, Director of Operations & Development at Cayman HospiceCare.

Cayman Water Company would like see this annual ride grow and become a family event. They encourage everyone to come out and support.

So pump up your tires, dust off your helmets and bicycles and bring the whole family out for a Sunday ride in support of a worthy cause.

Prizes will be drawn at the end of the ride and a light breakfast will be served to all participants. All participants will also receive a ‘goody bag’.

Further information and registration for the ride is available on www.caymanactive.com
