Karima Mariama-Arthur head shotOrganisers of TEDxSevenMileBeach 2015 are excited to announce their first group of speakers, including Karima Mariama-Arthur, founder and CEO of WordSmithRapport, along with local speakers, educator Jason Nehra and clinical psychologist and wellness specialist Shannon Seymour. Attendee applications are now open, so everyone is encouraged to apply for a coveted spot at this highly sought-after event.

TEDxSevenMileBeach is scheduled to take place on Wednesday June 10th at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort, and brings together a diverse set of individuals who will all speak passionately to this year’s theme: The Life of an Idea: Plant. Nourish. Harvest.

Organisers are especially excited to have Karima share her wealth of knowledge with the TEDxSevenMileBeach audience, as she brings over two decades of comprehensive, blue chip experience in law, business, and academia to the field of professional development. As a leading authority in cutting-edge adult education and professional development, Karima is an expert facilitator, executive communications consultant, and strategic leadership advisor. She is also a Distinguished Toastmaster (United States Senate Club), corporate speaker, and member of the National Speakers Association. She also enjoys helping young adults to increase self-confidence through coaching communication and leadership excellence.

Local teacher Jason Nehra is passionate about education and all things science, having started a new A-level Physics programme at Cayman Prep & High School. He is now Faculty Head of Science and takes great pride in the growth and success the faculty has seen over the past nine years since its introduction. A new A-level in Marine Science has been a particular success for his faculty, with students attaining “top of the world” grades on two occasions.

Originally from Vancouver, British Columbia, Jason completed his Bachelors of Science at the University of British Columbia before moving to the UK to undertake his teacher training. Now with almost two decades in the classroom, Jason routinely encounters exceptional people in Cayman who at one time shared his laboratory and he feels very privileged to have been a part of their journey.

Shannon Seymour, BA (Hons), MA Cl.Psyc, ESDM Cert. is a Director and Registered Clinical Psychologist at The Wellness Centre Ltd., a leading private provider of psychological services, mental health counselling and corporate wellness services in the Cayman Islands since 2004.

Shannon earned a Bachelor’s Honours degree in Psychology and Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Regina, in Saskatchewan, Canada. During her graduate studies Shannon became the first Canadian ever to be awarded the prestigious Graduate Research Fellowship (1994) from the American Psychological Association’s Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI).

She is also a member of the Canadian Psychological Association, the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, and is Registered with the Council for Professional Allied with Medicine (CPAM) of the Cayman Islands Health Council.

Having worked in multiple areas within the field of clinical psychology, Shannon’s experience stretches from child and adolescent mental health to addictions, family violence and, most recently she has been committed to increasing early identification and treatment for children with autism and related developmental disorders. Shannon is a frequent local presenter who regularly appears on television and has presented at multiple conferences.

Attendee applications are now open until April 25, so everyone keen to experience the excitement of the second TEDxSevenMileBeach conference for themselves here in the Cayman Islands is encouraged to apply now. There will be a limited number of spaces reserved for students.

TEDxSevenMileBeach, like all TEDx events, is a non-profit event. Companies who believe in bringing together corporations and individuals who want to be change agents surrounding remarkable thinking and ideas are encouraged to invest in the local community to support TEDxSevenMileBeach. Several local companies have recognised the value of participation and form the event’s current line-up of sponsors: Tower, Grand Cayman Marriot Beach Resort, Dart, Rotary Central, Butterfield and Melissa Wolfe Photography.
