Cayman Islands police have a very busy Holiday Monday

4255_logoIt might have been a National Holiday – Discovery Day – last Monday (18) but it was no day off for officers of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service as their latest Press Release (Date: Wed May 20) bears out:

1. Around 8:30am Monday 18 May 2015, uniform officers in Little Cayman were contacted by a resident of Little Cayman about a suspicious package washed ashore on the beach of Point of Sands. The package on inspection contained individually wrapped packets of what is believed to be cocaine. The package was transferred to Grand Cayman for destruction.

2. Around 6:19pm Monday 18 May 2015, a returning local man was arrested at the Owen Robert’s International Airport on three outstanding warrants. The resident left the jurisdiction of the Cayman Islands to reside in the United Kingdom with outstanding matter before the courts. The arrest warrants dated back to 2013 for possession of an imitation firearm, assault causing grievous bodily harm, and common assault when he failed to appear before the courts on separate charges.

He was remanded into custody by the courts yesterday Tuesday 19 May 2015.

3. The Captain of a 55 foot long fishing boat, registered in the British Virgin Islands became grounded on the reef just off shore on the western end of Cayman Brac on Monday 18 May 2015 after 6:00pm. The captain reported to officers from the Cayman Brac Joint Marine Unit that the vessel broke its mooring and drifted onto the reef. No visible damages was observed to the hull, efforts continue with a local salvage company on Grand Cayman to remove the vessel from the reef. At the time the boat had a complement of 5 members, 3 male nationals from Ecuador, 1 male national of Mexico and 1 female national also from Mexico.

It is believed the boat travelled from Cozumel Mexico to Grand Cayman on Friday 15 May 2015 before sailing to Cayman Brac. No injuries were reported.
