The Cayman Islands and Dominican Republic have opened their airspace to experimental-amateur built airplanes. The new policy is effective in time for AirVenture.

Caribbean Flying Adventures, publishers of a pilot’s guide to flying in the islands, made the announcement. A number of other countries around the world do not recognise the E-AB category of certification and special approvals had been required to fly in those countries’ airspace. Under the new policy, the Caymans and Dominican are issuing blanket authorisations to E-AB aircraft.

The Bahamas are also welcoming to private aviation and last year allowed pilots to fly LSA to their islands using a driver’s license instead of a third-class medical.

The Caymans and Dominican Republic will be among the Caribbean destinations exhibiting at AirVenture. Stop by the “Caribbean Corner” in Garmin Exhibit Hangar D at booths 4122-4127 to receive copies of the authorisations.
