briefsPassenger on plane found with cocaine

On Tuesday 26th March, during a routine check of passengers at Owen Roberts Airport, Grand Cayman, a man was found with a large amount of cocaine in his possession.

The man was travelling from Columbia and he is now being detained at HM Northward Prison.

Plane emergency at airport

A small aircraft belonging to Island Air was in a state of emergency on Friday 5th April when it came into land at Owen Roberts Airport, Grand Cayman.

The aircraft landed on its nose, and hopped along the runway, bending its propellers.

There were only two people on board the aircraft at the time of the incident and no one was hurt.

A spokesperson for Island Air said the plane was coming in too fast in a cross wind, which caused the craft to land face first.

Fire burns out before Fire Service can locate it

On Thursday 4th April, the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) Air Operations Unit was on a routine proactive air patrol when they spotted a fire spreading uncontrollably in the bush in East End Thursday evening near High Rock Road.

The blaze and billowing smoke was large and the fire was reported to the Cayman Islands Fire Service who was unable to locate it.

It is now assumed the fire burnt out on its own.

Government affordable homes not safe and some tenants found ineligible

Some of the government affordable homes in Bodden Town have been found to be unsafe and the tenants have been informed they will have to move out.

They will be accommodated in new houses.

It was also discovered there were 6 people living in government affordable houses who earned more than $3,000 a month, thus making them ineligible for the housing scheme.

Eviction notices were immediately issued.
