Cayman Islands Cricket: Former cricketers blast ‘worst ever’ team

Two former Cayman Islands national cricketers have labelled the recent performance at ICC World Cricket League Division 6 tournament as the worst ever.

The Cayman Islands team failed to win a single game in the competition, with a match against Saudi Arabia cancelled after the team were unable to secure visas. With Division 6 being the lowest the Cayman Islands team will now fall back to the regional league in the Americas region.

The brothers Davis and Chris Wight did not spare criticism regarding the performance.

“This team that traveled to England has to be the worst sporting team, at least by performance, to ever leave our shores,” David Wight told media entity Cayman27.

“It was an embarrassment.”

Chris, a former vice-president of the Cayman Islands Cricket Association, echoed the sentiment, but believes the issues extended beyond the pitch.

“We had a group of people coming to us sent by certain people telling us lies about the previous administration,” Chris Wight said.

“And now that they (new cricket administration) are doing worse, they want us to keep quiet. So that’s what’s most disappointing in this whole thing. I mean obviously, as somebody who loves Cayman cricket, I am disappointed at the results. The worst performance we’ve ever done. I am disappointed with that but it goes much deeper than that.”
