Cayman Islands celebrates World Sight Day

Sight Screening 2015-2Sight Screening 2015The Lions Club of Grand Cayman is inviting members of the community to join them in celebrating World Sight Day on October 8, 2015. The Worldwide Week of Service in Sight, October 4-10, brings Lions around the world together to help friends and neighbors with visual impairments in their local communities

The Lions Club of Grand Cayman has been conducting their annual sight screening on all three islands, screening Year 1 and Year 7 students since September 8, 2015, and will continue until October 22, 2015. This project allows the club to screen students entering primary and secondary schools and also provide assistance and support to those who have been identified as having issues with their vision.

President of the Lions Club of Grand Cayman, Ewan Jacques, states: “Vision is perhaps one of our greatest strengths and programmes, such as our annual sight screening within the schools, allow us to help our children reach their full potential.”

In addition to addressing needs in the community, the Worldwide Week of Service in Sight project is an opportunity for the Lions Club of Grand Cayman to support the Lions Clubs International goal of helping 100 million people by its 100th anniversary in 2017.

Lions Clubs International is the largest service club organization in the world. Our 1.4 million members in more than 46,000 clubs are serving communities in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the globe. Since 1917, Lions clubs have aided the blind and visually impaired, championed youth initiatives and strengthened local communities through hands-on service and humanitarian projects.
