Cayman Islands Airport Authority staff participate in ICAO Air Cargo & Mail Security Course

IMG_0103Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (3 November, 2015) – Three staff members from the Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) participated in a course on Air Cargo and Mail Security presented by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The five day ICAO/Canada Programme Cargo and Mail Security course for Belize, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Turks and Caicos Islands was held in Grand Cayman from 26-30th October and hosted by the Airports Authority.

The goal was to give the participants a better understating of Annex 17, Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPS) related to cargo, their link with security programmes, the importance of maintaining a secure supply chain and the role and responsibilities of entities in charge of secure air cargo and mail against acts of unlawful interference.

IMG_0064Commenting on the course, CIAA’s Chief Safety Officer Shane Bothwell said, “I am pleased that staff from the Airport Security Unit and Hold Baggage Screening department were able to benefit from this training. This is just another step in our continuing efforts to ensure that our airports, both in Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac, meet the highest security and safety standards.”
