Cayman: Extension of Premiums Assistance Payment Programme helps over nine hundred displaced workers

The Ministry of Health confirmed at the Government’s press briefing on 4 February, 2021 the approval of another round of assistance through the Health Insurance Premiums Payment Assistance Program (PPAP) to displaced Caymanian workers; specifically, those in the tourism and hospitality industry.

To date, the Health Insurance Commission (HIC) has vetted one hundred and sixty five applications and assistance to approximately 984 persons has been recommended and approved for health insurance premium payment assistance which commenced on 1st March 2021.

The program is scheduled to extend through June 2021. Unemployed workers form the Tourism and Hospitality industry are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the programme. “As the health crisis continues around the world we cannot stress more the importance of health insurance coverage for yourselves and loved ones,” said Mr. Mervyn Conolly, Director of Department of Health Regulatory Services and Superintendent of Health Insurance.

The deadline to submit an application to the HIC to obtain assistance with the premium payment for coverage commencing the 1st April 2021 is the 19th March 2021.
