Cayman: East End man arrested for Attempted Burglary and Breach of Curfew/2 West Bay Men charged in relation to wounding incident-UPDATED

Attempted Burglary

Just before 8PM on Friday 8 May, police were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communication Centre to a report of burglary in progress at a church hall located on Bodden Town Road. 

A 19-year-old-man of East End was located at the scene of the incident. When the police arrived the man ran from the location and a short foot pursuit ensued before the man was located and arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and breach of curfew.

Yesterday, Sunday 10 May, the arrested man was charged with Attempted Burglary, Criminal Trespass and Breach of Curfew. He is expected to appear in court today, Monday 11 May via video link.

UPDATE: Two West Bay Men Charged in Relation to Wounding Incident

The 34-year-old-man of West Bay has been charged with Wounding with Intent in relation to the below incident. A second man, age 20, of West Bay has also been charged with Common Assault and later bailed for court in June. (see press release below for details)

The man charged with wounding will be appearing in summary court this morning 11 May via video link.

Police Investigate West Bay Incidents, 7 May

At about 7:40PM yesterday, 6 May, the RCIPS received a report that shots had been fired in the vicinity of Foremast Close, West Bay. Officers responded and made checks in the area but nothing to substantiate the report was discovered. Subsequently police received another report that shots had been heard in the area at around the same time as the first report.

At about 10:00AM today, 7 May, officers responded to a report of an altercation and serious assault in the vicinity of Foremast Close. Officers observed a man at the location with a severe machete wound to his hand. Emergency services attended the scene and the man was transported to hospital for treatment.

A man, age 34 of West Bay, who is known to the victim, has been arrested on suspicion of assault GBH and remains in police custody.

Police are working on the basis that these incidents may be linked, and both are currently under police investigation.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to either incident to contact the RCIPS at 949-4222.
