Caribbean law librarians meet

law_homepageFor the first time, Caribbean law librarians will meet in the Cayman Islands for their annual conference early next week.

Some 40 delegates from 15 member countries of the Caribbean Association of Law Libraries (CARALL) are being hosted by the Cayman Islands at the Truman Bodden Law School (TBLS), for their annual general meeting and conference over four days from Sunday, 7 July 2013.

TBLS Librarian, Mrs. Beverley Speirs said a number of topics that are to be discussed will take forward this year’s theme: “From place to platform: taking Caribbean law libraries to the next level.”

Participants will discuss common problems within the region pertaining to law information collection and organisation, Mrs. Speirs noted.

After introductory and welcome remarks by CARALL President Mr. Thomas Borkowski, the Cayman Islands Attorney General the Hon. Samuel Bulgin, QC, JP, will present the keynote address at the opening ceremony on Monday, she said.

The Chief Justice, the Hon. Anthony Smellie, QC; Caymanian Bar Association Treasurer, Mr. Brett Basdeo; and Court Administrator, Mr. Kevin McCormac will bring greetings. Trinidad and Tobago Supreme Court Librarian, Mrs. Gomatee ‘Sandra’ Lakhram will present a vote of thanks.

Monday’s and Tuesday’s conference sessions will be followed by the annual general meeting on Wednesday, Mrs. Speirs added.
