Caribbean Airlines apologises to Guyana: to review prices, poor service

Caribbean Airlines is apologising to Guyana and vows to improve service following a threat by the country’s Cabinet to pull its national carrier status.

The Trinidad-based carrier has been the main airline flying between Guyana and New York, USA, since May, when Delta Airlines withdrew, citing high fuel costs.

But there have been complaints in Guyana that Caribbean Airlines’ prices are high and its service lacking.

Commerce Minister Irfaan Ali has accused the carrier of forcing customers to pay “enormous prices” while “taking us for granted and reaping in great profits”.

Caribbean Airlines chairman Phillip Marshall said yesterday the carrier will do its best to “improve the partnership”.  He says the airline will review its prices.

Meanwhile, Guyana is trying to persuade other carriers to enter the market.
