12 students form Cambridge University recently visited Cayman Prep and High School as part of their ‘Cambridge Footlights’ tour. The tour takes students to various locations where they share their passion for the performing arts and promote Cambridge University.

While visiting the school, the students took time to share their experiences of university life and their undergraduate studies with our Sixth Form students. Cayman Prep and High School has 4 students applying for Cambridge University and 1 student applying for Oxford University this year. A total of 50 Year 13 students are in the process of applying for universities in the UK, USA and Canada.

The discussion with the Cambridge students focused on the interview and application process, with excellent advice being imparted. “Be yourself and know that what you are applying for is the right course for you,” was a common theme during the visit. During the question and answer session students were able to gain an in-depth understanding of undergraduate study and life at university.

Head of Sixth Form, Brendan Touhey, commented that this was another excellent opportunity for our students, following on from previous university talks. With 5 Oxbridge applicants this year as well as students applying for veterinary medicine and medicine, these interactions help to build confidence and dispel the many myths about the university application process.

Ethan Whittaker, an applicant for Physics at Cambridge found the session extremely beneficial, commenting,

“I was delighted to get an insight into the application process and have first-hand feedback and encouragement from the Cambridge students”.

Head Girl, Rachel Boyd-Moss who is applying to study Natural Sciences at St. Catharines, Cambridge added,

“It was really encouraging to hear about their different application experiences, so I could feel calmer about my own. I’m looking forward to applying now, and excited about university.”
