Call for volunteers – Cayman Islands Triathlon – Nov 4th 2012

From Emma, cml

I am sure some of us associate this time of year as a time to dust off our Halloween outfits or prepare for Pirates week festivities. Some of us are simply counting down the weeks until Christmas…but beneath the façade of party boats and sunset cocktails here in Cayman, there is a sporting community preparing and training for one of the most prestigious sporting events on the island: The Cayman Islands Triathlon on November 4th 2012.

If you’re not competing in the Triathlon, the Cayman Islands Triathlon Association needs your help to be a volunteer, with roles available from race marshalling to event planning and promotion. The Cayman Islands Triathlon Association is a non-profit, volunteer-managed group that organises 12 multi-sport races a year. This year’s Triathlon is the association’s largest event, inviting cyclists, runners and swimmers to compete against the very best competition from Cayman and overseas.

So what do you need to do?

For race marshalling, the time commitment is pretty small. Ideally, the association would love to find volunteers who are available from 6:15-10:30am, however, there are shifts available for the separate Swim, Bike or Run legs: the Swim time commitment is 6:15-7:30am, Bike is 6:45-9:30am, Run is 7:15-10:30am.

If you’re an active volunteer and you’re up for an extra bit of fun, the association is also looking for a few volunteers to serve as kayakers on the swim course. Your job would be to keep an eye on the swimmers to make sure everyone is safe and to provide support to a swimmer if needed. The time commitment is 6:00am-7:30am. They even need a volunteer to operate the wave runner. Who wouldn’t want to ride a Jet Ski all morning – and for free?!

If you have an appreciation for fitness, enjoy supporting athletes as they give it their all, or simply want something fun and rewarding to do on a Sunday morning, please take part as a volunteer and support the Athletes on the island. For more information and to volunteer your name, please contact the Race Director, Paul Schreiner at [email protected].

Go on, be a sport and join some of us from CML who are helping as volunteers on the day!
