CAL Operations Affected By Windshield Issue

On January 3, 2024, Cayman Airways flight KX480 from Grand Cayman to Los Angeles (LAX), developed a minor defect with the Captain’s windshield on landing in Los Angeles at approximately 7:30PM PST. This defect occurred in the outermost (non-structural) layer of the windshield, and whilst this defect does not affect the aircraft’s ability to be safely operated, a decision was taken by Cayman Airways to remove the aircraft from service in order to have the windshield replaced in Los Angeles before further flight.

The removal of the aircraft from service in Los Angeles has also resulted in Cayman Airways taking a decision to dispatch (ferry) another aircraft from its jet fleet (in Grand Cayman) to Los Angeles on the morning of January 4, 2024 in order to operate Cayman Airways flight KX481 from Los Angeles, which was originally scheduled to depart Los Angeles at 7AM (PST).

The aircraft that was removed from service in Los Angeles is scheduled to be returned to service on January 6, 2024, and the airline’s flight schedule for today (January 4, 2024) and tomorrow (January 5, 2024) has accordingly been adjusted as follows:

January 4, 2024

  • KX481 from Los Angeles will depart at 3:00PM (PST).
  • KX802 to Barbados will depart Grand Cayman at 6:15AM on January 5th

  • KX107 to Grand Cayman will depart Miami at 8:55PM
  • KX834 to Havana will depart at 7:40PM
  • All other flights remain as originally scheduled

January 5, 2024

  • KX803 to Grand Cayman will depart Barbados at 11:40AM (AST)

  • KX605 to Grand Cayman will depart Kingston at 5:30PM
  • KX606 to Kingston will depart Grand Cayman at 7:40PM
  • KX607 to Grand Cayman will depart Kingston at 9:50PM
  • KX835 to Grand Cayman will depart Havana at 9:00AM
  • All other flights remain as originally scheduled

Passengers affected by the above changes to the airline’s schedule on January 4th and January 5th, will receive notifications from Cayman Airways with the new flight times. Cayman Airways maintains its steadfast commitment to safety as the primary focus of the airline’s daily operations, and extends its apologies to affected passengers for any inconveniences that may arise as a result of these changes to the airline’s flight schedule.
