A House with a Mission

National Trust Mission House 2013.Still009The week of Monday, 13 May, GIS Spotlight goes on a mission to bring you culture, and revisits two icons in the Cayman landscape.

A haven of Caymanian history and culture flourishes proudly in Bodden Town. Take a trip with us to the Mission House, a beautifully restored building, full of artefacts and memorabilia from a bygone era of Caymanian life. This is also a success story for the National Trust, which has a mission to keep links to Cayman’s past intact.

National Trust Mission House 2013.Still001Rediscover the glory of this important building that used to also house a school and early missionaries. Get an inkling of why a trip to the Mission House is worthwhile for adults and children alike.

Next, we revisit the excitement that surrounds Grand Cayman’s Blue Iguana Recovery programme. Find out what sets this unique animal apart and witness the persistence of a team dedicated to wresting it from the brink of possible extinction.

Finally, we once again visit Grand Cayman’s notable land-based natural attraction, the QE II Botanic Park in North Side. See how captive-bred iguanas are finding a home within the beautiful expansive confines of the park, close to their lives in the wild. Immerse yourself in the park’s soothing colours and cool shady bowers.

Produced by GIS Marketing and Communications, GIS Spotlight showcases government services and solutions regarding issues that concern and affect you. The weekly programme airs Mondays on CIGTV on Cable Channel 20 after 7 pm; and on Cayman27, at 8 pm on Mondays and 6 pm on Saturdays.

All stories seen in the week’s GIS Spotlight can also be found on the GIS Marketing and Communications website: www.gis.ky.
