4 More positive dengue cases confirmed

Dengue Update as of 2 February 2013

1. Total cases investigated for dengue in 2012 is 94 and 31 for 2013.

2.  Since the last update as of 26 January 2013, there had been 8 new cases under investigation for dengue, during the week of January 27, to February 2. One case was admitted to the hospital. One patient had travel history to an endemic area. Four of them were residents of George Town, and four were from West Bay.

3.  Nine results were received during this week from the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) previously known as the Caribbean Epidemiology Centre (CAREC). Four tested positive for dengue and none of them had travel history. Five were tested negative. These results are of this year’s (2013) cases. The onset of the last confirmed case was on January 18, 2013.

4.  The total results received thus far are: 105 cases with results (40 positives, 61 negatives, and 4 inconclusive) with 20 results pending.

Of the 40 confirmed cases, 12 have reported a travel history to endemic countries and 28 had no travel history, suggesting that they acquired the dengue locally.

a)  Distribution of all confirmed cases: West Bay 31, George Town 5 and Bodden Town 4.

b)  Out of the 12 with travel history: 7 from West Bay; 3 from G. T, and 2 from Bodden Town.

c)  Of the 28 without travel history: 24 from WB, 2 from GT and 2 from Bodden Town.

D)  Total hospital admissions: 29 (One during the week of January 27, 2013- February 2, 2013).
