2nd Cayman International Youth Football Tournament set for February 2015

2015 ciyft tournament flyerGrasspiece Promotions along with major sponsors Maples, Pepsi, Aquafina, DART, the Ministry of Community Affairs, Youth and Sports, the Ministry of District Administration, Tourism and Transport, Cayman National and a number of other corporate sponsors, present the 2015 Cayman International Youth Football Tournament from Thursday, February 19th to Saturday, February 21st at the Annex Field in George Town.

The tournament will feature Under 16 and Under 15 Cayman Athletic SC Select and Future SC Select teams, the defending 2014 Cayman International Youth Football Tournament champions Under 15 team from English League 1 outfit Swindon Town Football Club and the Under 15 team from Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo from Houston, Texas. The four teams will compete in a ‘round-robin’ tournament.

The majority of players featured on the two Cayman teams will be representing the Cayman Islands in the 2nd CONCACAF Under 15 Championships in August 2015.

In addition to the tournament, coaches from Swindon Town FC will arrive on Sunday, February 16th to conduct a week-long official Swindon Town Youth Camp from Monday, February 16th to Friday, February 20th for players aged six to 18 at the Annex Field. The Swindon Town team will arrive on Wednesday, February 18th.

The youngsters from the Swindon Town will take on the Cayman Athletic SC Select team at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 19th and the Houston Dynamo will take on the Future SC Select team at

7:00 p.m. On Friday, February 20th, the Houston Dynamo will face the Cayman Athletic SC Select team at 5:00 p.m. and Swindon Town play the Future SC Select team at 7:00 p.m. The final games of the competition will be played on Saturday, February 21st with the two Cayman teams playing each other at 5:00 p.m. and Swindon Town facing the Houston Dynamo at 7:00 p.m.

“Preparations for the tournament are coming along nicely and it promises to be yet another very exciting and entertaining week for youth football,” commented Grasspiece Promotions spokesperson Neil Murray. “With assistance from the Government and a number of corporate sponsors, we are able to once again showcase Cayman’s talented youngsters in action against top opposition from the United Kingdom and the United States.”

The Swindon Town Under 15 team will feature local boys Kray Foster and Nathan Borde. Kray missed out on last year’s Tournament due to injury but did feature for the Cayman Islands in the inaugural CONCACAF Under 15 Championships held in August 2013. Kray has been in the Swindon Town youth system since 2013.

Nathan Borde, who has been with Swindon Town’s Youth Academy since 2013 after spending time at Sheffield Wednesday’s Youth Academy, did play a role in Swindon Town’s win in last year’s Tournament

Tickets for the tournament are $10.00 for the three nights or $5.00 per night and are available at the gate. In addition, children under 13 will be charged $1.00 at the gate with all proceeds from the event covering expenses for the visiting teams.
