Other than the holiday for the Queen’s Birthday, yet to be confirmed, public holidays for 2013 have officially been released.

January, May and December next year have two holidays each. Both New Year’s Day and National Heroes Day are January holidays while December has Christmas Day and Boxing Day, both occurring midweek. In addition to Discovery Day on 20 May, Cayman has a public holiday for general elections on Wednesday, 22 May.

A list was recently gazetted under an Elections Office notification as expected holidays.

Corporate Manager in the Deputy Governor’s Office, Mrs. Christine Wright, has confirmed all holidays for next year barring Her Majesty the Queen’s birthday, for which official confirmation is awaited. The Queen’s Birthday is celebrated in Cayman with a public holiday in June on the Monday following the Saturday designated as the official observance in the UK, Mrs. Wright explained.

The public holidays in 2013 are:

Tuesday, I January: New Year’s Day

Monday, 28 January: National Heroes’ Day

Wednesday, 13 February: Ash Wednesday

Friday, 29 March: Good Friday

Monday, 1 April: Easter Monday
