The Department of Planning will be facilitating 2009 International Code Training Sessions in Cayman Brac at the District Administration Building, this October 11th and 12th 2013 from 7:30 am to 2:00pm. Tradesmen, architects, draftsmen, contractors, and persons working in the construction industry in Cayman Brac are invited to attend the 2009 International Code Training Sessions. There is no cost to attendees. Interested persons are asked to register by emailing Mr. John Levien at [email protected] or by telephoning 244-4443 by Tuesday October 8th 2013 at the latest.

 

The Director of Planning Mr. Haroon Pandohie is “pleased to be able to take the training initiative to Cayman Brac to support local contractors and tradesmen.” Mr. Pandohie stated that “This specialised training training was requested by practitioners in Cayman Brac and Little Cayman and is necessary to keep practitioners current on key areas of the 2009 International Codes that are to be adopted.“

 

Training will be facilitated by Mr. John England, CBO, MCP of England Training Divisions, a US based, International Code Council Certified Training Consultancy. Mr. England has been training Department of Planning Staff and the public from June of this year. Mr. England who has visited the Brac on separate occasions is quite fond of the Sister Islands, and is “delighted to be able to continue training Code officials and the public in Cayman Brac.”

 

The 2009 International Code Training sessions will continue for Department of Planning Staff in Grand Cayman from October 7th 2013 and end on October 22nd 2013. During this exercise the public is asked to please be patient with the Department of Planning, as select staff may not be readily available to assist. In the interim the public are requested to direct any queries in Grand Cayman to 244-6501 and any queries for Cayman Brac to 948-2222.

 

The International Code Training is intended to improve the Department of Planning’s performance and efficiency as the Cayman Islands Government transitions to the 2009 International family of Codes in early 2014. Benefits to the public will include: updates to current building practices and updates to the referenced standards that govern significant improvements to life, health and safety considerations that are not presently reflected in the Standard Building Code currently in use.
