The Miami Dolphins Youth Programs Department will return to the Cayman Islands this summer to conduct its second youth football camp in the top Caribbean destination.

The two-day camp is open to boys and girls, ages 6-14, in George Town, Grand Cayman. Events will occur at T.E. McField Sports Complex (The Annex).

“Last year’s camp was a great success and we experienced first-hand the excitement that the local children had for the game of football,” said Dolphins Senior of Director of Community Affairs Twan Russell in a release. “We’re thrilled to be invited back to continue making an impact through teaching physical fitness and teamwork.”

The initiative continues an innovative partnership between the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism and the Dolphins that began in 2012 with the goal of spreading awareness of the islands as a travel destination, while also increasing knowledge of football and physical fitness among the Caymanian youth.

The camp will focus on football training, team building and the importance of education. The goal is for kids to develop the skills that will help them succeed on and off the field. Russell will lead the camp, while the following former Dolphins players will help coach the participants:

Troy Drayton, Sam Madison, Lorenzo Hampton, Derrick Rodgers, Oronde Gadsden, Lousaka Polite

“We look forward to once again welcoming families from the South Florida region to enjoy this wonderful sporting event and share their passion for football and fitness with our local children,” said Minister of Tourism Hon. Moses Kirkconnell.

Oneisha Richards, acting director of the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, added: “Our family-friendly attractions and breadth of unique experiences makes the Cayman Islands the perfect destination for Floridians to visit.”

This will be the Dolphins’ third official visit to the Cayman Islands. In May 2013, representatives conducted a three-day tour, which impacted more than 1,400 children from 15 schools through a series of pep rallies that stressed the importance of physical education. Last year’s summer camp included more than 140 participants.

The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism has created travel packages for families that would like to be a part of this unique experience. Packages include airfare, three-nights of hotel accommodations, breakfast, camp fees and ground transportation.

An hour flight from Miami, located in the vibrant tranquility of the western Caribbean, the Cayman Islands is a premier destination for families. World renowned for its idyllic beaches, impressive culinary scene, diving spots, and endless attractions, the Cayman Islands offers spectacular recreational opportunities along with warm, impeccable service.
