Winter storm Gia is battering the Midwest with snow and ice

The first major snowstorm of 2019 is blanketing the Midwest with snow and ice.

From Colorado to the mid-Atlantic, a 1,800-mile stretch of the US has been hit by winter storm Gia, with the Midwest taking the brunt of the blow.

Reuters reports that seven people have died in weather-related crashes and that a foot and a half of snow fell in St. Louis. Over 57,000 people in Missouri and 27,000 people in Kansas are without power as of Sunday afternoon, according to PowerOutage.us. The flight tracking service Flight Aware also reported that there wereover 600 flight cancellations within, into, or out of the US on Sunday.
