The continuous influx of Sargassum arriving on Caribbean shores is having a profound impact on the environment, the economy and health across the region. The aim of the project is to develop novel tools, which will provide not only a better understanding of the ecological impacts of Sargassum, but will also help raise awareness on the challenges brought about by climate change and its effects on ecosystems, as well as new business opportunities that can provide solutions.

This 14-month initiative is being supported by a €337, 562 grant from the European Union (EU) as part of the Resilience, Sustainable Energy, and Marine Biodiversity (RESEMBID) program. The initiative will also see the development of a multilingual, bio-cultural curriculum on local marine ecosystems for primary and secondary school students. These new digital tools’ coverage can be easily extended to anyone interested, from other Overseas Countries and Territories and the wider Caribbean to the benefit of all countries and territories of the region.
