Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) released the following statement marking Caribbean American Heritage Month:

“During Caribbean American Heritage Month, we recognize the valuable contributions made by generations of Caribbean Americans to our nation’s history, progress, and culture.

“Today, there are over 4 million Caribbean Americans who live in the United States. Florida is home to a large Caribbean immigrant community, and I could not be more proud to represent a district with such a rich and diverse cultural identity. Indeed, Caribbean American Heritage Month is an opportunity for us to reflect on how much of our nation’s strength is drawn from our diversity, including the vibrance that Caribbean American culture and heritage offers.

“As we mark Caribbean American Heritage Month, let us honor the positive impact that Americans with Caribbean roots have made to strengthen our nation by making it a more inclusive and tolerant place.”

Congressman Alcee L. Hastings serves as Vice-Chairman of the House Rules Committee, Chairman of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and Co-Chairman of the Florida Delegation.
