The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism recently sponsored the Cooking Light and Health Fit Foodie Festival & 5K regional races in Fairfax, Va., Austin, Texas, Denver, Colo. and San Diego, Calif. with an offer on the table for the fastest male and female participants from each city to receive a glimpse into the Cayman Islands’ premiere wellness offerings and thriving culinary scene. Further showcasing Cayman as the Caribbean’s premier destination for active travellers seeking diverse experiences, the Department of Tourism awarded the winners of the Fit Foodie 5K races with complimentary airfare via Cayman Airways and hotel accommodations for a three-night stay at Sunshine Suites, a taste of local Caymanian cuisine, and of course, marathon registration fees, along with other race goodies.

“We are thrilled to welcome our Fit Foodie Marathon Team to the Cayman Islands, and wish them the best of luck participating in our annual Intertrust Cayman Islands Marathon,” said Mrs. Oneisha Richards, Acting Director of Tourism.“ Given their exceptional performance in the Fit Foodie 5K races throughout the United States, we are confident the relay team will excel in our optimal running conditions, while having the chance to indulge in the delicious culinary scene and beautiful scenery throughout their visit.”

As part of the 2018 Intertrust Cayman Islands Marathon weekend, the Fit Foodie participants will join fellow runners experiencing the destination’s unrivalled warmth and Caymankind hospitality both on-and-off the course, with a welcoming cocktail reception on Grand Cayman’s award-winning Seven Mile Beach as well as a Pasta Carb Loading Party to nourish and fuel the runners before they hit the track.

On the day of the race, the eight members of the Fit Foodie Marathon Team will divide into two four-person relay groups, in which each member will run approximately 6.5 miles. While the race is sure to be intense, participants will enjoy the scenic waterfront area of George Town as crowds of visiting families, friends and locals cheer them on before crossing the finish line. After the marathon, the Fit Foodies will celebrate with a rum distillery tour in the evening and one last Cayman sunset before heading back to their respective U.S. hometowns.
