From RCIPS

Shortly before 6:30 PM Sunday, 22 November, officers responded to a report of a collision on West Bay Road, in the vicinity of Snooze Lane, involving a white Ford Escape and a green Toyota RAV4. The drivers of both vehicles were spoken to and officers had reason to suspect them of being under the influence of alcohol. As such, road-side breath tests of both drivers were conducted. The driver of the Ford, a man age 26 of Bodden Town, had a reading of 0.174%. The driver of the Toyota, a woman age 47 of West Bay, had a reading of 0.320%. Both were arrested on suspicion of DUI.

The driver of the Toyota was placed in the police vehicle, while the driver of the Ford subsequently complained of pain and was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital by ambulance for treatment. The police vehicle accompanied the ambulance to the hospital, and while there, the driver of the Toyota absconded from the police vehicle. Yesterday afternoon, 23 November, she turned herself into police and was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst impaired, careless driving and escaping lawful custody. Both drivers have been bailed as investigations continue.

The RCIPS is taking this opportunity to urge the public not to drink and drive, but instead to make a plan for transportation if you decide to drink. If arrested and convicted for DUI, you will lose your license for a minimum of 12 months, in addition to paying a fine.
