Tour of CUC plant kicks off ‘Infrastructure & the Environment’ Leadership Cayman Islands’ seminar

Two weeks before their trip to the Sister Islands, the Leadership Cayman class took a trip to Caribbean Utilities Company’s Plant located in Industrial Park.

The trip was a part of the ‘Infrastructure & the Environment’ seminar which focuses on the importance of current systems in place and how future sustainability can be ensured.

Ray Brown, Engineering & Business Development Manager (CUC) conducted the tour and later delivered a presentation to the class. He also served a guest speaker for the evening seminar.

On completion of the tour, the class travelled to the Greenlight RE Offices in Camana Bay where they were treated to a dinner spread put on by Island Taste Group / Hungry Horse.

As with each seminar, a panel of expert guest speakers were in attendance to share their knowledge with the class members, and the guests for this seminar included:

* Tristan Hydes; Deputy Chief Officer, Ministry of Planning, Lands, Agriculture, Housing & Infrastructure.

* Jim Knapp; Managing Director, Endless Energy (Cayman) Ltd.

“During the seminar the class members and panellists engaged in a very lively debate and informative discussions relating to the current and future renewable energy solutions for the Cayman Islands,” said Faramarz Romer, the 2017 programme Chairperson. “All participants gained an appreciation for the complexity relating to the infrastructure needs of our country and the challenge of addressing these needs with the least amount of environmental impact.”

The Chamber would like to thank Mr. Brown for the tour of the CUC Plant and all other guest speakers for agreeing to participate in the seminar.

They would also like to thank class members Brendan Barry and Nicholas McLean for serving as the moderators, and Christian Blais for serving as mentor.

The Leadership Cayman programme is proudly supported by Cox Lumber Ltd., and the seminar was proudly sponsored by Island Paving (1985) Ltd.

Photos from the seminar can be found on the Chamber’s Facebook page.

The class will next meet on June 9 for a weekend trip to the Sister Islands.
