The story behind St. Kitts & Nevis PM Harris’ award-winning academic and political career

“Maybe this was destiny,” Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris said yesterday, Wednesday, October 17th, 2018, at his 15th Annual Help-a-Child Program Primary School Scholarship Award Ceremony.

“When I look back at my own life – where I was and what I have become – all throughout my educational journey someone stood by me, someone supported me…,” Prime Minister Harris said while explaining why establishing Help-a-Child 15 years ago was an easy decision.

Being born into humble circumstances, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris earned his way into the upper echelons of politics, academia and society – being elected to Parliament in 1993 and winning his seat five more consecutive times; attaining a Ph.D. in Accounting from Concordia University in 2002; becoming St. Kitts and Nevis’ third Prime Minister in 2015; receiving the prestigious Gusi Peace Prize, Asia’s equivalent of the Nobel Peace Prize, in 2016 for his Outstanding Statesmanship, and being recognized for his Outstanding Leadership and Public Service and as one of the University of the West Indies’ 70 outstanding graduates during UWI’s 70th anniversary celebrations in 2018.

After being honoured during the Gusi Peace Prize International Annual Awards Night 2016 at the Philippine International Convention Centre in Manila, Philippines on Wednesday, November 23rd, 2016, Prime Minister Harris said, “Through it all, I can say it is a singular honour and privilege to serve my constituents and country with distinction and with selflessness.”
