The Editor Speaks: The end of the world is nigh

Colin WilsonwebI have often heard that quote shouted loud and clear ever since I was a babe in arms and I have disregarded it with contempt.

Until now.

I don’t believe it but there is for the first time a doubt.

“The slaughter, persecution, and denigration of Christians in the Middle East and around the globe has a chilling resemblance to Gospel warnings of “signs of the end of the age,” the Rev. Franklin Graham says.”

One of our Front Page stories on Monday “Franklin Graham: World turmoil could signal ‘End of the age’” headlines a story by Cathy Burke from Newsmax.

“In a post on the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association website, the evangelist — the association’s president and CEO — notes “it seems the world is coming apart at the seams.”

“There appears to be no end to the bad news.”

“Ticking off some of the most troubled places on earth, Graham notes the “killing of Christians by Muslims from Indonesia to Bangladesh to Pakistan,” China “tearing down church buildings,” “Christians tortured, beheaded, and crucified in Iraq, with villages burned and churches destroyed, and much the same in Syria.”

“In the United States, as well, he writes, “there is great opposition to the church of Jesus Christ. We see this throughout the media, the entertainment industry, government, and politics.”

“The signs are unmistakable, he writes.

“The Ebola virus outbreak is yet another sign, he said.”

Not everyone agrees with him.

In the same article Robert Mulholland, retired professor of New Testament of Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Ky, was skeptical, saying events in Syria are not connected to prophecies of the “end times.”

Phew. That’s a relief.

However, in my 70 plus years I have never seen the world in such disarray.

Islam has dominated the news every day.

If the Islamists were slaughtered by Christians, as it is today the other way around, the cries and yells for retribution would be shouted from every tall building and mountain. There would be demonstrations in every city.

Christians hardly say a murmur and if they do it is scarcely reported.

How many churches in Cayman even offered a specific prayer to what is going on in Syria and its neighbours?

Has the Cayman Islands Ministers Association organised a march to gather all Christians together to pray for their fellow Christians who are being butchered?

They were quick to demonstrate against a Gay Cruise Ship and its passengers who were harming no one.

And there is the problem

The extreme Islamists are newsworthy and grab the attention. That is why idiots join them. They want to feel wanted and hold a weapon in their hands so they can feel they are powerful. The terror groups are like a magnet to them.

The media loves them.

Terror sells. Love for mankind doesn’t.

And the Bible does predict this.

The end of the world is nigh. Well, (a very soft) maybe.
