The Editor Speaks: I opened the window and in flew Enza

There was a little girl, and she had a little bird,
And she called it by the pretty name of Enza;
But one day it flew away, but it didn’t go to stay,
For when she raised the window, in-flu-Enza.

My ‘bird’ is not pretty and it did stay. Mine is called ‘Influenza’.

I have caught the dreaded flu strain that has invaded all of the USA and at least a third of the population here in the Cayman Islands.

According to every media report this strain is one of the worst ones in over twenty years.

I didn’t get my flu shot. In fact I never have. So there can be no sympathy for my chest, my head, my eyes, my ear, my throat, my nose and not least, my aching tired limbs.

My wife has to put up with my coughing and sneezing.

Everyone has been told to stay away and if I do go out I have to ring a bell and shout “Unclean! Unclean!”

And how long will I have to put up with this misery?

One to two weeks and I am contagious for seven days. Actually eight – the day before I got the symptoms. I better not tell Joan (my wife) that.

I should wear a face mask.

If I do that and go out I shall probably be arrested.

Warning: I am still infected with the virus. Don’t.

I opened the window and Enza didn’t stay
It finally flew away!

PLEASE!!!
