2014 Taste of Cayman to Feed Cayman’s Children

The Cayman Islands Tourism Association (CITA), organisers of the Taste of Cayman Food & Wine Festival, have announced that part proceeds from the 2014 event will go to local charity Feed Our Future (FOF).

The Festival, which takes place on Saturday, 8 February at the Festival Green Camana Bay, is the major fundraiser for CITA, which is also a non-profit organisation.

“We chose Feed Our Future for our charity this year because not only is the organisation carrying out much-needed work in our community by helping those who are most helpless but we think the underlying theme of food in both our event and the Feed Our Future mission makes the relationship a great fit,” said Jane van der Bol, Executive Director of CITA.  “We hope that the public will support this event which will benefit the children who are the future of this country.”

Festival-goers will have an opportunity to donate to Feed Our Future by handing in their unused food tickets. The value of each food ticket will be donated to FOF.

“Feed our Future is privileged to be appointed as the benefiting charity of the 2014 Taste of Cayman event,” said Stacey VanDevelde.  “The popularity of this unique culinary event means that not only do we have the support of CITA and its restaurant members but also of the wider community who come out in large numbers in support of this exciting event.  This partnership further provides a significant boost of awareness to our foundation and our work towards a hunger free Cayman Islands whilst also helping to raise funds to reduce childhood hunger in our community.”

VanDevelde says that the funds raised through FOF’s partnership with Taste of Cayman will be earmarked for the Feed Our Future school meal programme and in particular for those children that are accepted in the 2014/2015 school year.  FOF works directly with the schools in Cayman to identify those children that are being missed and aim to bridge the gap, and in this current school year (2013/2014) the organisation will ensure a hot school meal daily for up to 200 children, and work with over 20 schools in the Cayman Islands, including Cayman Brac.

“We believe that in our community everybody has a role to play and that something as simple as a healthy school meal can make all the difference in the life of a hungry child, especially one that is trying to keep up and succeed at school,” added VanDevelde.

Tickets are now on sale for the 2014 Taste of Cayman Food & Wine Festival for a discounted price of $35 per person at Books and Books and all Blackbeard’s and Big Daddy’s locations.  Online ticket purchases can be made at www.tasteofcayman.org.  For more information call 949.8522.

The Taste of Cayman Food & Wine Festival is sponsored by Camana Bay, Z99, Rooster 101, Blackbeard’s, Heineken, Appleton, Vibe FM, Spin 94.9 and Hew’s Hotel & Restaurant Supplies.
